 | view | Michael Cavanagh | I am currently working on a project entitled Mathematics teachers' responses to recent curriculum change. The project is funded by a Macquarie University New Staff Grant and I intend to investigate how the new Mathematics 7-10 Syllabus is being implemented in secondary schools across New South Wales.
I am also working with a colleague, Dr. Anne Prescott from the University of Technology Sydney, on a research project which considers how pre-service teachers begin to develop their classroom practice. The project title is In a class of their own: Issues confronted by pre-service and beginning teachers of mathematics as they enter the profession. The project is funded by a School of Education Internal Grant.
My other research interests include integrating the use of technology, particularly graphics calculators, into mathematics instruction. In particular, I am interested in likely misconceptions associated with using graphics calculators to display and interpret graphs.
I am also interested in mathematics teacher education programs and how best to assist beginning teachers integrate the ideas associated with the Working Mathematically strand of the new syllabus in the classroom.
I am a member of the Centre for Research in Mathematics and Science Education (CRiMSE) at Macquarie University and lead the Mathematics Teaching research group. |
