About the School Education Specialisation
Overview
The postgraduate program in Educational Leadership (School Education) has been specifically designed to enable individuals working within schools or school systems to develop their knowledge and skills concerning leadership and management within such institutions. The program offers both coursework and research options offered in internal and external modes of study.
The program aims to provide participants with an introduction to the broad areas of leadership and organisational theory, and to assist participants to develop their understanding of:
- current approaches to the governance, structure, and organisation of school education
- the nature of, and relationships between, educational and administrative leadership and management
- the skills of effective educational and administrative leadership and management
- the challenges facing the leaders and managers of schools and school systems.

- Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Leadership (School Education)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership (School Education)
- Master of Educational Leadership (School Education)
- Master of Philosophy
- Doctor of Education
- Doctor of Philosophy
Program Structure
The postgraduate coursework program in Educational Leadership (School Education) includes the following awards:
- Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Leadership (School Education)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership (School Education)
- Master of Educational Leadership (School Education)
The program is fully articulated so that with satisfactory performance students may progress from the Postgraduate Certificate into the Postgraduate Diploma and Masters program.
The Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Leadership comprises three course units.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership comprises six course units (the three course units of the Postgraduate Certificate program plus three additional units).
The Master of Educational Leadership comprises eight course units (the six units required for the Postgraduate Diploma plus two additional units).
At Masters level students may choose to complete their study by coursework or a combination of coursework and a small research project.
The following research degrees are also available to students wishing to address issues in the broad area of Educational Leadership in School Education:
- Master of Philosophy (MPhil)
- Doctor of Education (EdD)
- Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
Modes of Study
Each coursework program is available by internal or external modes of study. Each of these modes involves significant work online.
Admission Requirements
Applicants to the Educational Leadership (School Education) program require:
- A Bachelor degree or equivalent
- At least two years' relevant work experience
- For international applicants, an IELTS test with a minimum of 7.0 in each band, or equivalent.
