The Institute of Higher Education Research and Development (IHERD) brings together members of the University and wider community with a commitment to higher education research and development. Through scholarly research, IHERD aims to influence the development of higher education policy and practice within higher education sectors nationally and internationally.
The Institute offers postgraduate research and coursework programs that focus on the nature and development of higher education learning and teaching (including postgraduate research supervision); e-learning; leadership, management, and administration.
Mission
The mission of IHERD is to improve our understanding of higher education and higher education development. In particular, the Institute will focus on the nature and development of higher education in Australia, in three core areas:
- learning and teaching;
- research and research supervision;
- leadership, management and administration.
Objectives
- To engage in basic, applied, and institutional research into the nature and development of higher education learning and teaching; research and research supervision; and leadership, management and administration, which is locally, nationally, and internationally recognised for its quality, innovation and usefulness.
- To develop and maintain a program of postgraduate coursework and research opportunities in higher education learning and teaching; research and research supervision; and leadership, management and administration, that is available to students locally, nationally and internationally and recognised for its quality, innovation and usefulness.
- To contribute to the development of policy and practice in higher education learning and teaching; research and research supervision; leadership, management and administration within:
- Macquarie University (through the professional and organisational development work of the Centre for Professional Development (CPD), and
- the higher education sector nationally and internationally (through strategically targeted publications, conference papers, and consultancies).
