Postgraduate Research Opportunities
IHERD offers Masters and Doctoral programs for those interested in basic, applied, and/or institutional research into the nature and development of higher education learning and teaching (including e-learning), research and research supervision, and leadership, management and administration.
In this context, basic research refers to research designed to build fundamental theory within the discipline. Applied research refers to research which utilises theoretical models/constructs associated with the discipline to analyse and resolve issues or dilemmas associated with professional practice in higher education. Institutional research utilises an organisational perspective in the analysis and resolution of issues and dilemmas associated with higher education learning and teaching (including e-learning), research and research supervision, and leadership, management and administration.
For advice on how to structure a postgraduate research program of study, please contact the member of IHERD staff whose research interests appear to most closely match the area in which the proposed research will be undertaken. Prospective students are advised that research places are limited, and admission is subject to availability.
The Postgraduate Research Handbook (available on the ACES downloads page) provides further information for applicants interested in postgraduate research programs.
