Postgraduate Programs Overview
Macquarie University has been a leading provider of quality training in Special Education in New South Wales for over twenty five years. Many of the leading Special Educators in this State obtained their Special Education qualification from Macquarie. Macquarie University Special Education Centre (MUSEC), renowned nationally and internationally, recognises that Special Education encompasses many different educational and related contexts and provides valuable professional development for many educationalists working in inclusive and specialised settings. Professionals such as teachers, psychologists, therapists, job support personnel, residential care staff and pre-school workers will all benefit from postgraduate programs of study offered at Macquarie University Special Education Centre.
MUSEC provides a global perspective, flexible learning modes and networked environments. The academics at MUSEC are at the leading edge of their fields and this is reflected in the quality of their teaching and the postgraduate courses offered.
General admission requirements
Above all else, we are looking for graduates with trained minds who have a genuine interest in Special Education and a respect for the dignity and rights of all people to learn, regardless of their physical or intellectual disabilities or other special needs. You do not necessarily need a teaching qualification unless you subsequently want to work as a Special Education teacher in schools. Career opportunities exist in a wide range of Special Education and disability settings from the preschool years to adulthood.
Delivery and Workload
Units are delivered in flexible delivery mode. All students have access to seminars, iLectures, streamed videos, readings and a unit webCT site. Prospective students need to allocate 8-12 hours per week for each unit to cover content.
Fees
All courses are currently HECS based for 2008.
Applications are invited from graduates (or equivalent) with a genuine interest in Special Education. Upgrade paths are available for students enrolled in Postgraduate Certificates and Postgraduate Diplomas.
